Hi Napoleon,

Now, you will notice it everywhere! Most campaigns that fail miss #1- the identity.

Sandie: Yup! You are getting it. People want to "showcase" their identities. If you are an author - do I want to be associated as loving your books. What does that say about me?

Fun to watch, identity, relationship, and community. So If I put my identity out there as a new author, then I want to build an online relationship with those people who find my topic of interest; and then we can have a community around that interest. For instance moms, want to meet other moms, so that they can talk to each other about issues that are important to us. The attraction becomes important to me as a mom participant when I find something in the online relationship that meets my everyday needs for information, or recognition, or security. I think I am getting it.The business owner/marketer needs to find these answers and incorporate into their plan and it should lead to mutual success for all ;-)

Excellent information Shama.

Companies who do a better job of marketing with respect to the #1 reason (identity) will do better in social media marketing.

I never considered these points when looking at other failed social media campaigns. I think that big companies who try hard to market to the #3 reason first will end up with a campaign that looks forced upon the social media sphere or insincere. I'm thinking skittles and motrin.
